Here’s some news I’ve been struggling to keep under my hat for a while.
Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine (along with Uncanny Mag and Clarkesworld) has always been one of the dream destinations for a piece of my fiction. Thanks to an amazing collab with Rich Larson that took almost a decade of pondering and rewrites between the two of us, that dream is about to become reality.
VISITING SKINS is a creepy little horror/scifi novelette about a bunch of terrible friends making appalling decisions out in the woods. The idea came to me (no joke) in a painkiller-fuelled dream on my wedding night; I shared it with Rich, it marinated for a few years, became a 40k word novella, got chopped up, reformed, shrunk, expanded, shrunk again. The final form is lean and nasty, and I hope it'll sink its hooks into you come September. To get a copy, you’ll have to buy a digital or print copy of Asimov’s next issue direct from the source.
Thank you so much to Rich for being the engine behind this project. He pulled it out of the fire several times and was the one who got us over the finish line when I was in a difficult creative spot. I highly recommend you check out his debut novel ANNEX, or his latest short story collection THE SKY DIDN’T LOAD TODAY. He’s one hell of a writer!
